About the RLM

The Rothesay Living Museum is a community based partnership between the Town of Rothesay and Rothesay High School, and was founded on the concept that heritage and history are important aspects of identity that must be nurtured and honoured. In order to remember who we are, our stories and images have to be preserved, told and shown to the younger members of our community. Their stories, in turn, are also added to the collective tapestry, creating a Living Museum.

Rothesay High School is the physical site of the museum and houses the archives, processing facilities, and exhibitions of permanent and temporary displays. RHS is the single designated feeder school for high school aged students from the Rothesay area. Students and parents from the former villages and communities of Rothesay, Fairvale, East Riverside-Kingshurst, Wells and Renforth routinely interact as members of the Rothesay High School community, and celebrate the successes of our youth. The Rothesay Living Museum now opens the doors of the school even wider to the community.

The potential for creating teaching resources, using materials from our collection, is enormous. The chance to create meaningful interaction between seniors and youth is tremendous. The Mayor and elected members of Town Council have seen the value of this project, and granted the committee funds in order to accomplish various tasks. The Town Manager and the Town Financial Officer sit on the Living Museum Committee, which oversees and approves the disbursements of allocated funds.
